What this image means to me

Perspective.
I owe a lot to the Navy for helping me put into perspective what things are really important in life, and what things I can do without.

Gratitude. In my 22 years of service, I owe a lot of gratitude to God for keeping me safe and to my family who stayed with me the course.

Grateful.  I couldn't afford much growing up, with a steady military paycheck I was able to buy my first camera, a 3.2MP Sony Cybershot.  Hundreds of cameras and thousands of photographs later, I'm forever grateful.  It's crazy how I'm just now learning film photography.

I think my learning evolution is a little unique…and onto Non-Fungible Token (NFT) art.

My NFT journey starts with “My Last Underway” onboard my final Navy ship.

Carefully digitized to add a touch of motion, just how I remember or imagined it.

The sweet subtleties of the sea and the beauty of the sky.  I close my eyes and I can hear the wind and waves, something that was a part of me for 22 years.

I fall in love all over again.

Duty stationed in San Diego from 2010-2013, I went to Padres baseball games on weekends anytime we were in port.  A hidden gem, near Petco Park and just behind the convention center is this beautiful scenery.

The sweet serenity of solitude often brought me here.

I suppose watching the calm waters touching each sailboat's hull was a pleasant sight and sound for me.  A vast difference from being on a ship considered by many as one of the smallest in the fleet.  "Weather decks are secured due to rough seas and heavy winds!" announced regularly.

Thank you San Diego for accommodating this photographer.  You were the therapy I needed while being apart from my family.

Have you ever seen the white light?
Do I call upon the white light?
Should I follow the white light?
Where does the white light reside?
Does it lead to another dimension?
Is there a white light in the metaverse?

So many unanswered questions.

I moved from the Philippines to Seattle when I was 9 years old in February of 1987 and there's been one consistent saying about this place,
'Doom and Gloom'
A general feeling of pessimism or despondency per the definition from Oxford Languages.

To me, this animated scene is a representation of this saying but after having lived here for over 35 years, one lesson I've learned is to never let your surroundings dictate your feelings.

It's easy to find the 'Doom and Gloom' in this journey we call life, but as the other saying goes, 'In every dark cloud there's always a silver lining'.
Ultimately, it is your choice. For me, I choose LOVE, PEACE, and HAPPINESS - and an unlimited amount of silver linings.

One of the most exciting things that can happen in the normal course of a ship’s activity.

Refueling at Sea (navy acronym RAS)

It combines a much-needed resupply with the flurry of movement, sound, and danger, as two giant ships travel at a fast pace within yards of each other!

I've had my fair share of RAS and have always marveled at the flawless operation. The amount of potential danger has always been alarming and exciting.

I'm truly grateful that I experienced these moments and lucky enough to stay safe.

I grew up idolizing my uncles from my Mother's side. 5 of the brothers were in the military, 4 in the Navy, and 1 in the Army. At a really young age, even before I was in middle school I pictured myself joining one day and when I was in grade school, the movie Top Gun came out. Let's just say I was a fan and when I was old enough to sign up, I did. However, it required my parents' consent, and long story short I called the Navy recruiter then next thing you know I found myself in a delayed entry program - as a Junior in High School. This meant I was on the hook for joining. 12 days after graduating from school, I headed for boot camp, and following boot camp, I went to my first duty station - Yokosuka, Japan.
22 years later, little did I know how lucky I was to have made that decision to join. Aside from my wife, it was single-handedly the best decision I've ever made in my life and I am forever grateful and proud to have served my country.

Captured in 2012 Flying from Japan to Seattle.

I had my fair share of window seating during my 22 years of traveling while in the Navy. One constant during my trip was the sight of Mount Rainier. This image, in particular, I love and it puts a smile on my face every time I see it.

The way it's camouflaged in the sea of clouds and the tip of the mountain peering through represents my feelings toward my photography journey.

There's so much more of the mountain to see. To share.

It's only a matter of time.
