Danielle and Owen met through their mutual friend and groomsman Steve Haske in 2010. Steve knew Danielle from Virginia and later met Owen in college at Portland State University. Danielle was starting to get jealous of the mysterious person who was taking up all of Steve’s time and friended Owen on Facebook to get to know him better. Flirting lead to email exchanges, and eventually they started talking on the phone. Not a day has gone by where they haven’t heard each other’s voices.
At that point they were still on opposite coasts. They met for the first time in person in Washington D.C., and endured a long distance relationship before Danielle moved to Seattle in 2011. A few months later, Owen joined her and their rabbit and chinchilla, and created a home.
Owen proposed to Danielle in the living room of their apartment on a spur of the moment decision minutes before they were set to leave for dinner. After agonizing over where best to propose, it seemed that their home of five years, a representation of the life they had forged together in Seattle, was a good a place as any. As Danielle sat stunned on their beat up couch, Owen asked her to spend the rest of her life with him with a ring made from two diamonds and a sapphire taken from a pin that had been in his family for five generations.
